Established in memory of Giulio Gambelli, better known as the maestro of Sangiovese, the award sponsored by ASET and PGI is now in its second year. The under 35 years old oenologist was select from the fifteen finalists, based on the following principles, the highest respect the soil, the vine, the varietal, the vintage, and the territory. The name of the young winemaker who, according to the strict jury in 2013 was the closest to the wine making style to the late Giulio Gambelli will be unveiled in Montepulciano on the occasion of the 19th edition of the preview of the Vino Nobile.

The Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino will preview its four star 2009 vintage at Benvenuto Brunello on January 27 in New York at Gotham Hall. The program will consist of two guided tastings and seminars; along with a trade walk around tasting as over 30 renowned wineries from Montalcino showcase their 2009 vintage along with their Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2008, Rosso di Montalcino 2012, Sant’Antimo and Moscadello di Montalcino.

This year among the 415 winners, there are 107 wines that can be purchased for approximately $20 in Italy and throughout the World. This fact has been the propelling force behind the Italian wine into the international scene. More than 30 annual grand tastings are organized around the globe and for 2014 the guide will also be translated in Japanese, joining the English, German and Chinese editions. The other important aspect of the guide is that of sustainability, this year there are 84 Green Tre Bicchieri listed, Wines poduced by means of organic or biodynamic viticulture. This year’s results were produced from a panel of 60 experts, who tasted 45,000 wines and reviewed 20,000 labels from well over 2,300 wineries.
