Lecinquevigne Barolo DOCG

by Raffaele De Gennaro

Damilano originates at the end of 1800, when Giuseppe Borgogno, great grandfather of the actual owners, begun to grow and vinify vines. Now, the young members of the Damilano family are producing the classical Langhe wines, and good Barolo’s.

Lecinquevigne Barolo DOCG is crafted from Nebbiolo cultivated in five distinct townships, in the Barolo DOCG zone.

The vineyards are located in Castellero, located northeast of the village of Barolo with western exposure; Monvigliero, located in Verduno with southern exposure; Fossati, located in La Morra with east-southeast exposure; Ravera, located in Novello with southwestern exposure; and Cavourrina, located in Grinzane Cavour with west-southwest exposure.

The resulting wine is the expression of the Barolo region

The Nebbiolo vines range in age from 30 to 50 years old, has a ruby-red color with orange highlights and leaves behind an intense fragrance of rose, leather, tobacco, and subtle hints of violet and tar.

The taste is broad and encompassing, leaving a compelling sensation of softness in the mouth, with a long and persistent finish. This Barolo can be enjoyed right away, and has the capacity to age very well. This wine is best served at 61°F -63°F. Barolo Lecinquevigne, while not conceived as a single vineyard cru, is still considered a very important wine in Damilano’s portfolio

Made with fruit assembled from five specific vineyard sites across the Barolo wine region, this beautiful blend of Nebbiolo grapes offers a clear window onto the noble Italian variety. Aromas include small berry fruit, spice, white peppercorn and cola. There’s a tight firmness that propels a long finish” – Monica Larner – Wine Enthusiast –  91 Points

“Fragrant, exhibiting sandalwood, cherry, with latent energy and persistence, this needs time to develop. Ends with a beautiful fruit and mineral-laced finish” – Bruce Sanderson Wine Spectator –  91 Points
