He developed a love for drawing at a very early age. Upon graduation from high school in 1976, Haring enrolled in the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh and, after two semesters, dropped out. Later that same year, Haring moved to New York City and enrolled in the School of Visual Arts in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Haring found a thriving alternative art community that was developing outside the gallery and museum system, in the downtown streets, the subways and spaces in clubs and former dance halls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11572 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/19619722_4392732206_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"182\" \/>In addition to being impressed by the innovation and energy of his contemporaries, Haring was also inspired by the work of Jean Dubuffet, Pierre Alechinsky, William Burroughs, Brion Gysin and Robert Henri.\u00a0With these influences Haring was able to push his own youthful impulses toward a singular kind of graphic expression based on the primacy of the line.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11556 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5705941633_3c3b08d0d0_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"135\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Haring was diagnosed with AIDS in 1988. In 1989, he established the <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/Keith Haring Foundation\">Keith Haring Foundation<\/a>, its mandate being to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organizations and children\u2019s programs, and to expand the\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">audience for Haring\u2019s work through exhibitions, publications and the licensing of his images. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; color: #000000;\">Haring enlisted his imagery during the last years of his life to speak about his own illness and generate activism and awareness about AIDS. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11560 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/a5149214460293.5628468a45b24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"249\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/a5149214460293.5628468a45b24.jpg 500w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/a5149214460293.5628468a45b24-400x252.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 249px) 100vw, 249px\" \/>During a brief but intense career that spanned the 1980s, Haring\u2019s work was featured in over 100 solo and group exhibitions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">In 1986 alone, he was the subject of more than 40 newspaper and magazine articles. He was highly sought after to participate in collaborative projects, and worked with artists\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">and performers as diverse as Madonna, Grace Jones, Bill T. Jones, William Burroughs, Timothy Leary, Jenny Holzer, Yoko Ono and Andy Warhol.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11559 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/43956976522_a3e4b3352d_m-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"167\" \/>Keith Haring died of AIDS related complications at the age of 31 on February 16, 1990.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Haring has been the subject of several international retrospectives. The work of Keith Haring can be seen today in the exhibitions and collections of major museums around the world.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11573 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/26267922402_a98acf12b1_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"240\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11574 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/36716609336_4a4dd55757_m-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"334\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Keith Haring and the Castellani Family<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1989 the Castellani Family invited Keith Haring to Pisa to realize what would become his most important permanent public work, the monumental mural <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.comune.pisa.it\/english\/doc\/the_mural_of_keith_haring.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tuttomondo<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11565\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/12860218013_695fb0ce6d_b-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/12860218013_695fb0ce6d_b.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/12860218013_695fb0ce6d_b-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/12860218013_695fb0ce6d_b-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On that occasion, the artist gave the family a drawing, hoping that one day it could be used for a prestigious wine produced in Tuscany.\u00a0Keith Haring only designed two labels, the first one was for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chateau-mouton-rothschild.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ch\u00e2teau Mouton Rothshild<\/a> and the other he gave to the Castellani Family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11585\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Etiquette-Mouton-Rothschild-19882-464x644.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"464\" height=\"644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Etiquette-Mouton-Rothschild-19882-464x644.jpg 464w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Etiquette-Mouton-Rothschild-19882-464x644-288x400.jpg 288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Today, more than 30 years later, this project finds its realization thanks to a special commemorative Supertuscan Cuv\u00e9e produced by the Castellani family in one of its best vineyards, the <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/tenutadiceppaiano.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tenuta di Ceppaiano<\/a> on the Tuscan coast<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11566 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Tenuta-di-Ceppaiano-758x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Tenuta-di-Ceppaiano-758x1024.jpg 758w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Tenuta-di-Ceppaiano-296x400.jpg 296w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Tenuta-di-Ceppaiano-768x1037.jpg 768w, https:\/\/winedineguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Tenuta-di-Ceppaiano.jpg 828w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It all started with Piergiorgio Castellani<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;We met quite randomly on a sidewalk in the East Village. I was a young student from Pisa, passionate about art, Keith was at the peak of his career.<br \/>\nI approached him and invited him to do something important in Italy.
